Dry day
In view of Gandhi Jayanti, October 2 has been declared as Dry Day in Khasi and Jaintia Hills. All bonded warehouse, IMFL shops/bars/hotels/clubs shall remain closed on this day.
Office bearers
The annual general body meeting of the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association, Laban zone was held in the city on Wednesday in which office bearers for the term 2015-2018 were elected. While Debashish Chakra-borty was named the president, Wanlambok Nongrum was elected the vice president. Other members were also elected in the meeting which saw the presence of KJDSTA president, ED Nongsiang.
Cleaning drive
The Dorbar Shnong Upper Lumparing will hold the locality cleaning drive from 7 am on October 2. The locality will remain closed till the drive is over.
Conference
The 15th Biennial General conference of the Meghalaya   Government Primary School Teachers Association will be held on October 3 at 11.30 am at Dinam Hall.
Blood donation
The Precision Club of RR Colony will organise a voluntary blood donation camp on October 2 in association with Regional Blood Bank Pasteur Institute at RR Colony LP School from 9.30 am onwards. Health Minister AL Hek and Nongthymmai legislator Jeminoh Mawthoh will be present on the occasion.
Awareness programme
The VDP, Umkrem under (Pynursla Police Station) organised an awareness programme at the village on Wednesday. Large number of people including school children attended the programme organised under the theme, “stay away from criminal activities”. During the programme a power point presentation was made by East Khasi Hills SP, M.Kharkrang about the ill effects of drug abuse.
Food fest
In line with the Platinum Jubilee celebration, the Dorbar Shnong of Mawlai Mawroh will organize a Food Fest on October 2 at Mawroh (Kyntonlieh) from 11am onwards. Besides food items, T-shirts and caps with printed text highlighting the theme of the celebration will also be released during the day. Prizes will also be distributed to the winners of the drawing competition.
