SHILLONG: In an incident that hints towards a scam, Garo Hills Police intercepted a truck (ML-08C-8597) carrying relief material in the form of rice meant for plain belt areas.
The driver identified as Roshan Ali from Hallidayganj also produced order copies supposedly issued by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner.
After an inquiry, it was found that relief materials for plain belt areas have already been distributed.
Later, the driver produced three order copies issued by DC (Relief), West Garo Hills, with no date, signature or seal, addressed to Malcolm M. Sangma, Gautam Prasad and Balseng Sangma.
Police have set up an inquiry into the alleged scam.
