SHILLONG: Displaying their delicious, mouth watering and tasty Khasi food items, the women of Mawlai Mawroh on Friday organized a Food Fest as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebration of Mawroh locality.
Contributing their bit towards the run up of the mega festival scheduled to be held in the month of December, the Seng Longkmie of the Dorbar Shnong on Friday, draped in their apron, unanimously came out in large number and took charge of the entire fest.
From Jadoh, Dohkhleh to Tungrumbai, the traditional food items attracted many people and the food items were sold off in a blink.
“Organising such a festival is not only about collecting money for the celebration; the most important thing is that it brings us all together under one roof. We work, discuss and laugh together. Where else would you find the time nowadays to meet and discuss if not in events like these. So I feel such events strengthen the bond of friendship among women,” President of the Seng Longkmie Mawroh Dorbar Shnong, M Hynniewta (Kong Mai Mai) said.
Attending the event as the chief guest, Mawlai MDC PT Sawkmie stressed on the need to have a strong bond amongst all the residents of a locality for the betterment of the society as a whole. “Like the saying goes, charity begins at home, I feel in this case too, unity and strength is determined by our surrounding and the people we live with,” he said.
Highlighting the role of a woman in a household and in the society, Sawkmie said that women play an important role in shaping the future of a society. “Equal distribution in work and responsibility in any set up determines the true essence of team work and speaks in volume about the importance of equality,” he opined.  The former Mawlai MLA also released the T-shirts and caps with printed texts highlighting the theme of the Platinum Jubilee—‘Unity is Strength’.
During the event, prizes were also distributed to the winners of the Drawing and Essay competitions organized by the Dorbar Shnong few months ago.
Others present at the function were the Rangbah Shnong of Mawlai Mawroh, Peter G Lamare, executive members of the Dorbar Shnong, residents of the locality besides others.
