SHILLONG: After a marathon walk of over four and a half hours inside Law Kyntang Lyngdoh of Hima Lyngiong Lyngdohship, East Khasi Hills, Prabjot Sodhi, MBE, Country Program Manager, Global Environment Facility (UNDP-SGP-CEE), visited the sacred grove for the first time.
He stated that it was an irreplaceable treasure of mankind gifted to human beings by the ancestors of Lyngiong Lyngdohship.
He lauded the wise indigenous tribal chiefs representing the unique Khasi Jaintia and Garo people and their biodiversity culture.
Sodhi was on a Shillong tour to discuss advocacy programs being undertaken by Society for Promotion of Indigenous Knowledge and Practice (SPIKAP) with custodians of the sacred groves. He was accompanied by John F Kharshiing, co-Chairman, Meghalaya State Planning Board, Chairman, HL Ryntathiang, Lyngdoh of Hima Lyngiong Lyngdohship, along with Myntris, elders and village chiefs.
A number of interventions have been suggested by Sodhi, which would be taken up by the Lyngiong Lyngdohship cabinet for consideration.
