In August, the State Government had given one and a half month to the district administrations concerned to complete the first phase and an      additional three months for completion of the second phase for implementation of the entry/exits points in the State, while at the same time promising to complete land acquisition and payment of compensation to affected land owners within 125 days.
At the same time, the State Government had also assured to examine the suggestions of amendment of the existing Benami Act and residential bill before tabling their final drafts in the Assembly.
In the first phase, entry/exit points are proposed to be set up at Malidor and Khanduli in Jaintia Hills, 19th Mile in Ri Bhoi and 23 other locations in Garo Hills region.
The second phase is intended to include areas falling in Block I and Block II along the inter-state Meghalaya-Assam border. The State Government has entrusted the Tourism department with the task of planning, managing and designing the entry/exit points.
