SHILLONG: The State Government has expressed its commitment to implement the much awaited Food Security Act before the end of this year.
Sources on Monday informed that the State Government has set a deadline to implement the Act within this year.
The Meghalaya Cabinet had, earlier this year, approved the implementation of the National Food Security Act, 2013 in the State.
According to sources, the list of beneficiaries which has been prepared by the State Government is being re-checked once again to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries are enrolled under the Food Security Act.
The scheme aims at providing rice and wheat at the rate of Rs.3 and Rs.2 per kg respectively to the identified beneficiaries who will avail 5 kg of food grains per head per month.
