SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has ordered the sealing of stalls No.134 and 139 in Tura Super Market, which belong to the general secretary of the Tura Super Market Traders Association, who had allegedly instigated the shopkeepers to keep their shutters down on August 14 and 15 despite a ban on bandh.
In his order Justice TN Singh observed that in a common reply to show cause signed by some tenants under the instigation of the petitioner, a blatant lie that the Tura Super Market was under lock and key on August 14 and 15 was mentioned and that the petitioner and tenants stood in front of Tura Super Market for two hours.
However, the court observed that the blatant lie of the owner of room number 134 and 139 has been nailed by CCTV footage seized from Tura Super Market which shows that the market was not kept under lock and key and the owner and tenants did not come to Tura Super Market on August 14 and 15.
While ordering for the sealing of the shops, the Court order also made it clear that there should be no damage to property or merchandise of the petitioner during the sealing.
The order directed that the authorities shall prepare the inventory of goods belonging to the petitioner lying inside the shop and allow the petitioner to take out the same before sealing the shops.
