SHILLONG: The CBI has seized papers from Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) in line with the order of High Court of Meghalaya to initiate probe against the officials who had granted permission to owners to construct buildings in violation of the MUDA Building Byelaws.
Though the Supreme Court had given relief to owners of as many as 13 high rise buildings by way of a stay to the demolition of additional floors of the buildings, the apex court, however, has not stayed the CBI inquiry as ordered by the High Court on September 28.
An official source said that the CBI had on Tuesday seized the documents related to the permission granted to the 24 buildings which were under the scanner of the High Court.
Besides the 24 buildings, the High Court, in its September 28 order, had directed the CBI to scan MUDA records any ascertain details of the number of cases in which building owners have been benefitted by the acts of commission and omission on the part of officers of MUDA.
The High Court had asked the investigating agency to submit the report on October 15 to find out as to whether the erring officers of MUDA and building owners and builders are required to be prosecuted in the interest of justice.
