Conversion of railway track to be completed soon

Agartala: The conversion of railway track from narrow gauge to broad gauge from Badarpur in Assam to Agartala would be completed by March 2016,
Union Minister for DoNER Jitendra Singh on Fridaysaid. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi says the country cannot develop without the development of North-East. So we are laying much stress on the completion of projects in the region,” Singh expressed.
He said, the process of laying 15.054-km-long railway track to connect Agartala with Akhaura in Bangladesh will be completed by the time the waterways transport are approved.
A team comprising technical experts of IRCON visited the sites of laying the tracks and set a target of completing it by 2017, Singh said.
Of the 15.054-km track, five km would be on Indian side and the rest ten km would be in Bangladesh. 3.7 km track would be viaduct on the Indian side to save cultivable lands.
The entire project cost would be borne by the Indian Government, he said.
Singh said the expansion of the Agartala airport is an important project to accommodate more flights and due importance would be laid for its upgradation.
Earlier, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced that it would be an international airport.
The DoNER minister said Tripura can be one of the bamboo states and generate revenues, job avenues for the youths. (PTI)
