MIYF condemns bid to do away with ADCs
SHILLONG: Coming down heavily against elements who are questioning the relevance of the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs), MIYF on Friday said it will advocate a campaign to protect and safeguard the three ADCs in the State.”We stand for the rights of the original inhabitants of the State falling under the three ADCs of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution. We strongly object to any conspiracy to abolish and dissolve this system of administration gifted by the framers of the constitution in the Constituent Assembly of the Indian Union during 1946-1949,” MIYF publicity secretary Kitboklang Kharlyngdoh said in a statement on Friday.”The federation feels that the identity and future of the indigenous people had been shaken due to the insertion of Para 12A in the Sixth Schedule. But somehow the indigenous people have some hope with the remaining powers of the ADCs in the State,” Kharlyngdoh said.
“If the anti-ADC elements succeed in their attempts, the original inhabitants will be wiped out from the land of their ancestor and the State will become the next Tripura,” he said.
“The federation will convene its federal executive committee in October to discuss this issue thoroughly,” the statement added.
