MP panel reviews promises to NE

SHILLONG: The Committee on Government Assurances led by Rajya Sabha MPs during their meeting in the city on Friday reviewed the assurances made by the Union Ministers for the North East regarding establishment of a National School of Drama, a film institute and setting up solar cities, among others, in the North East.
At the same time, they crosschecked the assurances on better mobile connectivity in the State and construction of power projects and hydel power projects in the North East.
The Committee also scrutinized loans declared to the Schedule Tribes, Schedule Castes and farmers by various banks.
The Committee was headed by Hussain Dalwai, Member of Parliament, as Chairman with members consisting of Nadimul Haque, Dilip Dhar Pandya, Lal Singh Vasodia and other officials.
Prior to its Shillong visit, the Committee toured Guwahati on October 5-6 and Itanagar on October 7.
