MUDA starts demolition of illegal floors

SHILLONG: Acting on the order of the High Court of Meghalaya, the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) on Friday began demolition of illegal floors which were constructed in violation of the MUDA Building Byelaws.
The High Court had, on September 28, ordered demolition of additional floors beyond third floor (G+3) of several multi-storied building in the city.
MUDA officials started the demolition drive at around 9:30 am with two buildings – one belonging to Bidur Das at Jail Road and the other owned by Raj Kumari Sinha at Bivar Road.
Earlier this week, 13 building owners listed by the High Court for dismantling of additional floors, received respite from the Supreme Court till October 12.
The 13 affected building owners who have been granted interim relief by the Supreme Court are -Satyabrata Baidya, Ajit Dasgupta, B.D. Marbaniang, Mentok Ri Projects Pvt. Ltd., Mohendro Rapsang, Beroline Khongshei, Saini Pala, Narayan Prasad Jhunjhunwalla, Nilesh Tibrewalla, Manchin Fincon Pvt. Ltd., Nicholas Wallang, Sanjay Jhunjhunwala and Maruf Elahi.
