SHILLONG: Over three lakh people in the State have been enrolled so far for the second phase of Megha Health Insurance Scheme.
Officials informed that the enrollment drive for MHIS is over in South Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi.
The Health Department had earlier sought a month’s extension for completion of enrolment in East and West Khasi Hills and the Government approved the proposal.
The enrollment drive in East and West Khasi Hills will continue till October 31.
Meanwhile, officials informed that many people in interior areas of the State have superstitious beliefs that they will fall sick if they apply for the insurance.
“Despite efforts, we are finding it difficult to enroll people from the interior areas of the State,” officials said adding that they are trying their best to make people aware of the benefits of the scheme.
MHIS-II targets to cover 7,59,515 households in Meghalaya with the policy period commencing from August 1, 2015.
