Over 3,000 males fined for using women coaches in Delhi Metro
New Delhi: Over 3,000 male passengers have been apprehended and fined this year for illegally travelling in Delhi Metro coaches reserved for women. The CISF, which is tasked to secure the Delhi Metro network, also found and handed over 70 lost or missing children inside the Metro premises this year till September. The force, undertook over 270 operations with the help of its specially-trained women and men personnel in civil dress to clamp down on this activity, according to an official data accessed by PTI. The Delhi Metro, as per existing rules, keeps one coach reserved for women passengers during transit, and male passengers are not allowed to travel in them. The data indicated that a total of 3,026 male passengers were de-boarded by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) teams and later fined for the act by Metro authorities under relevant laws. During the same period between January- September, 70 children were handed over to Delhi Metro authorities and police after they were found lost or alone in the rapid rail transport system of the national capital region, which has an estimated 26 lakh people travelling on it everyday, according to the data. Naxals set afire truck, abduct its helper
Raipur: Naxals set ablaze a truck and allegedly kidnapped its helper in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, police said on Monday. “A group of Naxals torched an empty truck of a private transport company and abducted its helper near Bodra nullah under Benoor police station limits late last night,” Narayanpur Sub-Divisional Officer of Police C D Tirki said. The vehicle was heading towards Benoor from Narayanpur when about 12 armed ultras stopped it near Bodra nullah. After forcing the the truck’s driver and helper to alight they burnt the vehicle, he said. While escaping from the spot after the offence, they allegedly took the helper alongwith them assuring the driver that they would release him after a few hours. Soon after getting news of the incident, security forces were rushed to search the area, he said adding that efforts were on to trace the kidnapped person and the culprits. (PTI)
Woman pushed off running train by GRP constable
Berhampur (WB): A woman passenger was pushed off a running train by a GRP constable following an altercation with her husband, police said on Monday. The woman, Nesa Giri (34), was travelling with her husband, Ramesh Giri (39), in the Teesta-Torsa Express to NJP station on way to her home in Darjeeling from Azimganj station in Murshidabad on Sunday night. Near Farakka, the ticket collector and the GRP constable engaged in a heated argument with Ramesh Giri. As the train neared Farakka station, Nesa Giri was pushed out by the GRP personnel, a police official said. The woman was rushed to Beniagram Hospital in Murshidabad from where she was taken to Malda General Hospital, hospital sources said. Her husband, Ramesh Giri, has lodged a complaint with the GRP at Farakka station, the police official said. (PTI)
River activists, environmentalists walk to save Yamuna
Agra: Hundreds of river activists and environmentalists organized a walk demanding release of water in Yamuna and speed up cleaning programmes to save the river from further degradation. The march, a part of the River Connect Campaign, commenced from Haathi Ghat near Agra Fort to Etmauddaula view point park on Sunday night. Dr Devashish Bhattacharya, an environmentalist, said the march was organized to draw attention towards receding water levels of the river which also pose a threat to the foundation of Taj Mahal. “We need a minimal flow of water in the river not only for drinking, but also for the safety of the Mughal monuments along its banks,” he said. Dr Anand Rai, ex-NASA scientist, said Yamuna was a repository of culture and religion. “Its reduction to a sewage canal was a matter of serious concern,” he said. In a resolution, participating citizens demanded a barrage on the Yamuna river, a minimal flow of water round the year, cleaning and repair of ghats, constitution of river police to patrol the banks, action against polluters and tapping of the drains opening into the river. Dalit brothers thrashed for opposing remarks against Ambedkar
Palghar: Three Dalit brothers were allegedly thrashed by a mob after they objected to their derogatory remarks against Dr B R Ambedkar in Virar area here in early hours ton Monday, police said. Sagar Ingle (25), Jeet Ingle (30) and Chetan Ingle (22), sons of a RPI corporator in Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation Pandurang Ingle, were beaten up with sticks and iron rods at the M D Nagar locality of Virar at around 12.30 AM, police inspector S B Mane said. As per initial investigation, Sagar was having a conversation with some of his friends and the discussion apparently veered towards the Dalit community. Some of those in the group, who were said to be in an inebriated state, started abusing the community and allegedly passed derogatory remarks against Ambedkar, Mane said. (PTI)
