City to pay tribute to Dr Kalam

SHILLONG: To mark the 84th birth anniversary of (L) Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Shillong will join the rest of the country in paying tributes to the former President who breathed his last here on July 27.
Loreto Convent, Shillong, will represent Meghalaya in the all- India launch of the world’s largest postcard campaign “dearkalamsir” planned as a tribute to Dr. Kalam on his 84th birth anniversary. It is a simple handwritten postcard as a tribute to the departed leader by LetterFarms.
IIM-Shillong will also pay homage to the departed leader who collapsed in the auditorium of the Institute while delivering a lecture to the students.
Demand for transport challans

JOWAI: The State Coordination Committee of Coal Owners’, Miners’ and Dealers’ Forum, Meghalaya, has filed an application before the Transport Department setting a two-day deadline for issuance of transport challan of 19 MTs from Thursday.
The Forum claimed that the Transport department has violated the NGT order by not issuing transport challans for three-axle trucks capable of carrying 19 MT of coal and warned of approaching the High Court of Meghalaya if the challans were not issued failed to response to the demand made by the Coal miners’ forum, the forum will again has to approached the honorable NGT Court”, a sources informed.
JH govt servants warned

SHILLONG: Claiming that they have received complaints from the public, members of the Meghalaya People United Front (MPUF) and Jaintia National Union (JNU) inspected some government offices in War-Jaintia area recently.
“Government employees arrive in office between 11:30 am-1 pm which creates hurdles for the residents who are in need of help,” they said, quoting the complainants.
The two organizations warned the government employees to be regular and punctual.
Demand for impartial inquiry in cop murder case

NONGPOH: A meeting of right thinking citizens of Western Ri Bhoi District at Patharkhmah on Wednesday urged the State Government to conduct a free and impartial inquiry into the unnatural death of late P.J. Marbaniang.
Comfort Dolloi, convener of the meeting, said the meeting decided to support the demand of CSWO for a CBI enquiry into the Marbaniang case.
Dolloi said they also resolved to demand appointment of honest and upright officers as in charge of Patharkhmah police outpost and Jirang BDO.
