TURA/SHILLONG: A state police battalion constable who was on duty outside the strong room at Ampati on Thursday reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon.
Lance Naik Joseph Lalthlanuana of the 15th platoon of 2nd MLP battalion was on duty outside the strong room where the EVMs of the GHADC polls were stored before counting on Thursday. The incident happened at around 3-20am.
The Meghalaya Police website claimed that Laithanmua committed suicide inside the Battalion Barrack at DC Office Complex, Ampati.
The commandant of the 2nd MLP Battalion JFK Marak said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
