Djokovic overcomes gutsy Tomic to sail into Shanghai semis
Shanghai: Eighth-seed Rafael Nadal blazed past his Swiss opponent Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets to advance to the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters on Friday.
The Spaniard brushed Wawrinka aside 6-2, 6-1 in a quarterfinal contest that lasted for about an hour.
The 29-year-old, who dropped to eighth in the rankings following a slump in form, will next lock horns with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for final-berth.
World number one Novak Djokovic cruised into the Shanghai Masters semi-finals after defeating Bernard Tomic in straight sets on Friday.
The Serbian was forced to battle past the Australian to clinch the thrilling opening set before he eventually claimed a 7-6 (8/6), 6-1 win over Tomic.
Earlier, Rafael Nadal’s Asian swing gained further momentum as he whipped a flagging Stan Wawrinka in straight sets to reach the semi-finals.
Djokovic will face Murray for a berth in the summit clash, while Nadal will play Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the last four. (ANI)
