Headmen’s body slams govt

NONGPOH: The Dorbar ki Rangbah Shnong Ri Bhoi District, a headmen’s on Friday slammed the State Government for allegedly taking the people and the traditional heads for a ride. The public meeting, held in collaboration with the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Byrnihat Pyllun, was aimed at making people aware of the urgent need for the implementation of Village Administration Bill 2015 passed by the KHADC. It may be mentioned that the KHAD (Village Administration) Bill, 2015 is awaiting the assent of the Governor. The meeting also slammed the state government for keeping mum on the demands of different traditional institutions for implementation of the VAB. The headmen’s body also expressed strong opposition to the recent Meghalaya Grassroot Institutions Governance Act, 2015, stating that the Bill cannot serve the cause of the indigenous tribes.
