Nongstoin bypoll: Sanbor plea finds no takers

SHILLONG: The nominated MDC in KHADC Gabriel Wahlang, who hails from Nongstoin, is keen to contest from Nongstoin on a Congress ticket in the by-poll to be held sometime in February next.
The by-election is necessitated following the death of sitting legislator HS Lyngdoh, the architect of HSPDP, on September 26.
Wahlang, who is currently  holding the post of Deputy Chairman in KHADC,  said on Monday  that it was upto the High Command to take a decision “since there can be other applicants for the party ticket including Dr Adviser Pariong who had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly polls from Nongstoin in 2013 against HSPDP veteran H S Lyngdoh.”
NCP leader Sanbor Shullai’s appeal to political parties not to put up candidate to allow a relative of the late leader to get elected from Nongstoin finds no takers.
Wahlang also pointed that there is no presence of NCP in Nongstoin .
KHADC plans better security of building
Wahlang, who looks after the MDC hostel, meanwhile, said that the KHADC was committed to beef up security in its complex in view of the recent use of a toilet in  the KHADC complex by a youth to take drugs.  Syringes were recovered from the toilet on October 17 after noon.
Speaking to reporters at his  office chamber on Monday at KHADC, Wahlang clarified that no one used the toilet of MDC hostel.
Earlier, a section of the media had reported that the MDC hostel was used by the arrested youth. Police had on October 17 picked up three youths from near BBS College, Lumdiengjri, and seized nineteen small packets containing orange/white powder suspected to be heroin from his possession.
Clarifying that the drug abuse did not take place inside the premises of the MDC hostel, the office of the KHADC has indicated that the MDC hostel is not opened 24 hours a day, “The gate is closed by 9:30 pm or 10 pm and in the morning it is opened at around 8 am.” Further, they said , ” Neither the Seng Samla nor the police raided the MDC hostel that day.”
