Mukul: No plan to encroach upon council subjects

SHILLONG:  Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has made it clear that Government has no intention to encroach upon any subject which is under the jurisdiction of autonomous district councils (ADCs).
In reply to a memorandum submitted by the  Ka Synjuk Ki Nongshynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep, the Chief Minister  said that the Government would continue to have consultations with all the stakeholders  on the matter and will be guided by the outcome of such engagements which will be only in the  best interest of the people of the state.
After the order of the High Court of Meghalaya on the role and functions of the headmen, Meghalaya Government(convened a meeting with traditional heads, political parties, NGOs to discuss the matter of institutionalizing the   traditional bodies.
Later, the State Government constituted a committee under the chairmanship of former Chief Minister DD Lapang to study and give its views on the draft Bill to institutionalize traditional institutions.
