SHILLONG: A 17-year-old girl from an East Garo Hills village has been allegedly abducted and sold for Rs 2 lakh to an unknown person from the north Indian state of Rajasthan.
The girl has been untraceable since April this year however, it was only on October 2 the father of the victim filed a police complaint stating that on March 1, one Md. Abbas Ali abducted his 17-year-old daughter from Rongdu Rongtit (EGH) and later sold her to a person from Rajasthan.
When contacted, East Garo Hills SP Davis Marak said that it was in April this year that a labourer from Assam came to stay in the village. During his stay the accused enticed the girl and even asked her father for her hand. However, the father rejected the offer.
Both of them “vanished recently” and it was learnt that the girl has been sold off to a person in Rajasthan. The State police has sent a team to Assam to inquire about the accused. Rajasthan police is also being contacted on the matter.
