SHILLONG: Another case of cyber fraud has come to light when a religious leader lodged a complaint after allegedly being duped of Rs 24.81 lakh.
It was on May 16 when Fr. Richard Iawphniaw of Nongstoin Social Service Society, New Nongstoin received an email from one Fr. John Yatam, Executive Director, Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF) promising to provide him donation amounting to £ 950,000/- for the uplift of the under privileged section of society.
According to a complaint lodged by Fr. Richard Iawphniaw, the accused also directed him to deposit Rs. 24,81,140/- as registration fee, which he did accordingly.
But till date he has not received any donation.
All attempts to contact West Khasi Hills district police chief in this connection failed.
