Guwahati: Accusing BJP of “only creating trouble”, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said his party would return to power in Assam in 2016 as people were living peacefully under its rule in the state.
“BJP only creates trouble…they do so from the moment they start their poll campaigning. BJP is not acceptable in the Northeast,” asserted the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha while talking to reporters.
“BJP makes 99 per cent promises and does only one per cent work,” Azad alleged.
“Rajiv Gandhi had signed the Assam Accord and people here are living peacefully. UPA one and two worked for Assam.”
“Common people are eager to be with the Congress and will vote for it in the upcoming 2016 assembly elections and return it to power,” the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said.
Speaking about the contributions of the Congress Prime Ministers in taking the country forward, Azad said first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had laid the foundation of a developed India giving importance to higher education, industrialisation, space research, hallmark research, etc.
Indira Gandhi had changed the destiny of the country through nationalisation of banks, while Rajiv Gandhi by reducing the voter age to 18 years fulfilled the hopes and aspirations of the youth, brought revolutionary changes in the field of science and technology, besides strengthening relations with India’s neighbours, he said.
“But Congress is always lagging behind in giving publicity to such achievements,” the Congress leader said. (PTI)
