KHNAM wants CM, Ministers to resign
SHILLONG: Headmen under the banner of Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SKNSKBH) met East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar on Tuesday to discuss issues related to the proposed “mega procession” to be held here on October 30.
The SKNSKBH has asserted that around 1-2 lakh people are expected to participate in the proposed rally.
“The permission has been granted but they have to be disciplined and need to take care of the people who will participate in the rally,” Dkhar said.
He assured that the necessary security measures would be put in place and several areas would be cordoned off.
The headmen have also been given a route to follow during the proposed rally.
Though the state government has de-notified the DD Lapang committee on traditional institutions and decided to form a delegation comprising representatives of headmen and the government to meet the Union Home Minister for the approval of the Village Administration Bill (VAB) pending with the Meghalaya Governor, SKNSKBH president Werlock Kharshiing said that they would go ahead with the proposed rally on October 30.

Meanwhile, members of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) on Tuesday visited the residences of several cabinet ministers including Roshan Warjri, Ampareen Lyngdoh, R C Laloo, HDR Lyngdoh, P Tynsong, Rowell Lyngdoh, Sngewbhalang Dhar, AL Hek and distributed pamphlets demanding their resignations and withdrawal of their support to the Mukul Sangma-led MUA II government.
The KHNAM also organised a bike rally here on Tuesday to mobilize support for the mega procession called by the traditional heads demanding resignation of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and his cabinet members.
Accusing the Chief Minister of infringing upon the rights of the indigenous people, the KHNAM members urged the ministers to join the rally called by the Synjuk KI Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri U Hynniewtrep to be held on October 30.
“Mukul Sangma and his colleagues should stop interfering into district council matters,” KHNAM Working President Adelbert Nongrum said adding that the bike rally was organised to register opposition to the adamant attitude of the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
“We appeal people to come out and take part in the rally on October 30,” he added.
