Mokokchung admin bans killing of Amur Falcon

Kohima: Following the report of killing of Amur Falcon, presently roosting in Nagaland, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Sushil Kumar Patel has notified that Amur Falcon are protected under Wild Life Protection Act 1972.
Wherein the trapping, killing and selling of these birds is a criminal offence punishable with three years of rigorous imprisonment or with Rs 25,000 fine or both under section 51 of the Protection Act 1972.
Official sources on Monday said, “the DC issued the notice yesterday stating that the periodical migratory bird comes to Nagaland by mid September and leaves by November every year and as such Amur Falcons have been meticulously numbered, tagged, counted and monitored by the native countries.”
“In pursuance to the principle, the Chief Conservator of Forest of Nagaland in Kohima is protecting Amur Falcons during their annual migration to Nagaland,” he said.
The DC informed that members of the Village Councils and Gaon Burhas as agents of the district administration are directed to enforce this order by way of giving wide publicity to their respective villagers and they are also assigned to impose fine as per the order.   (UNI)
