The Under Secretary, General Administration Department, Meghalaya, has informed that all State government offices, revenue and magisterial courts and educational institutions in East Khasi Hills shall remain closed on November 4 (Wednesday) on account of Nongkrem Dance.
Plantation programme
Adhunik Cement Limited, a subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat Cement Ltd., East Jaintia Hills, organised a tree plantation programme on Monday under Akira Miyawaki method of plantation under the guidance of Senior Environment Engineer, Central Pollution Control Board, Dr. Shantanu Kumar Dutta. Around 5000 saplings were planted within a 2500 square metre area on the factory premises.
National Seminar
The Department of Languages, Sankardev College, Shillong, is organizing a UGC sponsored two-day national seminar on ‘Globalization and its Impact on Regional Languages’ on November 9-10.
Allegation
West Jaintia National Council, Central Body, has alleged that government employees in West Jaintia Hills were irregular in attending their office especially in the rural areas of the district. The organization has directed the employees to perform their duties as per government regulations.
DJ music festival
Shout Out Entertainment is organizing the DJs Music Festival Shillong Chapter 2015 on November 14 at Pala Resort, Sohra. The DMF will be held in all the NE capital cities with Shillong being the first chapter.

One dead in road mishap in EJH

SHILLONG: One person died when a night super bus (AS-01-EC-0054) dashed against a Maruti Alto car (ML-05M-4435) at Umkiang in East Jaintia Hills on October 28 around 12:30 am.
The unidentified driver of the Maruti Alto, who sustained injuries, was removed to Silchar Medical College Hospital, Assam, where the attending MO declared him brought dead.

Four held for NGT ban violation

SHILLONG: Police arrested three persons – Md. Shibul Hussain Laskar, Md. Nizam Uddin and Md. Jalal Uddin – while they were extracting coal from a quarry at Umlawang in East Jaintia Hills on October 30.
In another incident, police arrested one Deep Bora, driver of truck bearing registration number ML-04B-7507, after detecting that he was transporting coal without valid documents at Umtyra in East Jaintia Hills on October 29.

Four Bangladeshis arrested

SHILLONG: Police arrested four Bangladeshi nationals at Dkhiah East village in East Jaintia Hills District recently.
The arrested persons have been identified as Md. Tahingir Hussain (19), Md. Sayeedul Rehman (18), Md. Fulzar Hussain (30) and (4) Md. Asiq Uddin (18).
They reportedly entered India from Bangladesh after crossing the border at Kwoter village in East Jaintia Hills.
