Overground GNLA, ASAK workers arrested in Rongram

TURA: West Garo Hills Police intercepted two persons working as over ground members for both the GNLA and its rival outfit ASAK while they were travelling through Rongram town on Tuesday.
The two accused Evenezer Ch Marak (22) alias Pangsrang hails from Dawagittinggre village of Williamnagar and Jimberth Ch Marak (30) alias Jabat of Rongchek Chambugong village of Rongsak, were reportedly travelling to collect extortion money when they were intercepted by the police and taken into custody.
“They confessed to be working for both the GNLA and the ASAK outfits,” informed district police chief Mukesh Kr Singh.
24 dacoits surrender
Meanwhile, sustained police operations to clamp down on highway robberies in the Tikrikilla region of the district has resulted in 24 suspects giving themselves up to the authorities.
Police have been conducting operations in the Tikrikilla region for over a week to arrest a gang of dacoits who have been waylaying passing vehicles and robbing the occupants.
On Monday the villagers from the area brought over 24 people suspected of being part of the dacoity gang.
During interrogation 11 of them were identified as members of the gang and were taken into custody. Among the eleven detainees four were underage and have since been forwarded to a juvenile home.
