TURA: The new NPP led executive committee led by CEM Denang T Sangma has cleared the name of Conrad K Sangma for nomination to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
Conrad’s name was cleared by the Executive Committee on Monday and the same was forwarded to the district council affairs department, on Tuesday, informed council sources.
The governor is likely to give his approval sometime this week.
Independent MDC’s name missing : Meanwhile, the name of Independent MDC from Batabari, Mark Goera B Marak, who was slated to join the new GHADC executive committee (EC) of the NPP-led Garo Hills Progressive Alliance did not figure during allocation of portfolios on Wednesday.
The Batabari MDC was slated to take charge of the Civil Works department in the GHADC.
The new executive committee list which was cleared by the Meghalaya Governor on October 30 had nine executive members (EM’s) including the name of Mark Goera B Marak.
But on Wednesday, the list had only eight names.
The civil works department has now been retained by the current chief executive member (CEM) Denang T Sangma while deputy CEM and former student leader Augustine R Marak  has been given the general administration department, among others.
There are conflicting reports emerging over the Batabari MDC not making it to the Executive Committee.
One report indicated that he might have crossed over to the opposition Congress camp after expressing unhappiness over allocation of portfolios.
Another report from within the alliance claim that the Batabari MDC decided against taking control of the civil works department due to the huge financial mess left behind by the previous Congress-led executive committee.
Despite the controversy over the non-inclusion of the Batabari MDC’s name in the list of portfolios, the current chief executive member has indicated that two more MDCs would be allotted portfolios even as he refrained from giving any name.
The only Independent to make it to the executive committee is Barengapara MDC Kurosh M Marak, who got Taxation and Tourism.
For the first time in the council history the BJP has not only won a seat but is also a part of the EC with Bhupendra B Hajong assuming charge of the Water Works department.
