NONGSTOIN: The Nongstoin by-election is set to be a remarkable one for the simple fact that all the four contenders are qualified with three boasting of higher degrees.
Independent candidate Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait holds a PhD in Law, Dios Jyndiang of the HSPDP has a Master’s Degree in Education, Congress candidate Gabriel Wahlang holds a Master’s degree in Science and is a former teacher of St. Anthony’s Hr. Sec. School, Shillong, while the fourth candidate, Moslandar Marngar from the UDP, is an Arts graduate.
The three male candidates have little or no experience of contesting and winning elections, and are only staking claim to victory by virtue of being local candidates. The lone female candidate is confident that her experiences in Mawthadraishan constituency would stand her in good stead.
Political pundits, however, do not have much hopes for the Independent candidate as they foresee a close fight between the HSPDP and Congress candidates.
