SHILLONG: In what can be termed as a healthy trend, more than 450 youths from Meghalaya have been selected in Indian Army in the last one and half year and all of them are undergoing training in different parts of the country.
Addressing a press conference here in the city, Col. Amar Singh from the Directorate of Recruiting, Indian Army said that another recruitment rally  for all districts of Meghalaya and North Eastern states will be held on  November 16, 17 and 18 while November 18 recruitment rally will be held exclusively for the state of Meghalaya.
He informed that the recruitment rally will be held in Assam Regimental Centre for the post of soldier   technical, soldier clerk and Soldier general duty.
While admitting that initially the response in Meghalaya for such recruitment rallies was not good, he added that the response has gone up in last few years and many youths are now coming forward to be a part of the Indian Army.
When asked why all the Armed Forces has very less representation from the North Eastern states, he said that awareness is the biggest factor for which people in the region are not coming forward to join the Armed Forces but now a lot of awareness is being created in the region and people are being urged to join the armed forces.
Our youths from the region now even prefer to be in commandos,” he said while adding that youths of the region are good in physical demands but they lack somewhere in writing.
For the upcoming rally, he said that as yet 583 youths have already registered and added that now youths who intend to participate in the rally must apply online and then attend the rally.
He also informed that youths who have tattoos only in their wrist will be allowed to participate in the rally and people who have tattoos in any other parts of the body will be not be allowed to participate in the rally.
