SHILLONG: With the ongoing strike by the students of Kiang Nangbah Government College, the Deputy Chief Minister in charge Education RC Laloo has revealed the anomaly in appointment of as many as 13 persons mostly helpers by different principals in the college, without the approval of the state government.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, ) Laloo said that these 13 persons including sweepers, drivers, handymen, cook and others were appointed without any sanction from the Government and they having been availing state scale of pay for the last 18 years.
“The successive principals have appointed them without the knowledge of the state government”, Laloo said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that following the anomaly, a departmental inquiry was conducted and the report revealed that due procedure was not followed while appointing these 13 staff between 1997 to 2011.
“In this context, we propose to give the appointed persons daily wages”, Laloo said.
The Deputy Chief Minister also asked the students to desist from agitations and to concentrate on studies considering the competitive world they live in. “During our student days, less percentage marks was not a problem in getting admission for higher studies, but now high percentage is needed, hence the students should concentrate in their studies”, Laloo said. However, the Deputy Chief Minister said that among the demands of the students, the approach road to the College, furnishing of Girls Hostel, Extension of College building and construction of buildings for the plus 2 students will be fulfilled by the Government .
