SHILLONG: A woman in West Jaintia Hills was duped of thousands of rupees by a quack who assured to cure her son.
The victim filed a complaint at Raliang police outpost accusing the quack Tiarsing Shadap Mannar of extracting money from her on the pretext of treating her son.
The accused initially claimed that the son of the victim was in a serious condition and required treatment by a practitioner from Assam. For this, he took Rs 1500 from the woman on June 18 last.
However, the woman claimed that even after the payment, no “treatment” was carried out.
Later the quack demanded Rs 13,075 from the woman which she agreed to pay in the hope that the treatment would soon commence.
But the quack delayed the treatment under the pretext that the Assam practitioner had met with an accident. He further collected Rs 6500 from the woman.
However, when she called him on August 27, he informed her that he cannot carry out the treatment but assured to return her money on November 5. The woman is yet to receive the money.
