Mysterious blast rocks Jhalupara

3 vehicles partially damaged

SHILLONG: A blast rocked Jhalupara locality on Thursday late night forcing the residents to come out of their houses.
The ‘mysterious’ blast occurred at a bush near the Jeevan Ram Goenka Memorial Hospital at around 10.30 pm creating a crater and at the blast site and partially damaging two vehicles and a road roller parked nearby.
The blast was so powerful that it created holes on the road roller.
Initially, it was suspected that the loud noise was caused by fire crackers.
However, due to the impact of the blast, many houses and buildings in Jhalupara area shook compelling the people to come out of their houses to inquire about the incident.
Police personnel who immediately rushed to the site are tight lipped over the actual cause of the blast. They took photos of the site and the vehicles.
Police said that the dog squad and other wings of the police will visit the blast site on Friday to further investigate into the matter.
