Violence in students’ rally: Three FIRs filed

SHILLONG: As many as three FIRs have been filed by the police and the West Jaintia Hills district administration for the violence that erupted in Jowai during the rally called by the students of Kiang Nangbah Government College.
S.C Laloo, Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills, lodged a complaint that on November 10, students of Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai, along with members of JYF, WJNC, KSU and HYF gathered at the College premises and took out a procession from the venue towards DC’s Office without any permission, shouting slogans in support of their demands.
On reaching the main gate of the DC’s Office they shouted at the officials of district administration and police personnel on duty with indecent language and forcibly opened the main gate which led to its partial damage.
In separate FIRs, constable Lambert Pasi and Naik B. Chyne, both of Jowai Police Reserve (WJH), lodged complaints that on November 10 at around 2:37 pm, while they were on duty at DC’s Office, Jowai, in connection with the agitation programme called by Kiang Nangbah Government  College Students’ Union (KNGCSU) and other NGOs, the students and NGO  members obstructed the staff of DC’s Office from performing their normal activities, disturbed normal life, destroyed public and private properties and blocked the entry/exit routes at DC’s Office with boulders etc. The agitating students and NGOs also pelted stones at the DC, West Jaintia Hills and police personnel. The complainants said that they also sustained injuries.
