Gogoi urges children to emulate ideals of Nehru
Guwahati: Assam on Saturday joined the rest of the country in celebrating the birth day of Jawaharlal Nehru as ‘Children’s Day’ when Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi called upon the children to emulate the ideals of the first Prime Minister. Attending a programme organised by the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan here, Gogoi called upon the children to emulate the ideals of Nehru. Terming Nehru as a symbol of integration, Gogoi said the first premier fought against British Imperialism and laid the foundation of a modern India with pluralism and diversity as the hallmarks of the country. The chief minister also interacted with the children and distributed confectionaries among them. The attraction of the day was cultural performance staged by the children of Sishu Sarathi and others which enthralled everybody present in the programme. Gogoi also felicitated nine students for their achievements in different disciplines at national and international events. (PTI)
Manipuri artistes to perform at Konark Festival
Bhubaneswar: Odisha government’s tourism department is all set to organise the five-day twin mega events of Konark Festival and International Sand Art Festival from December 1. All out efforts are being taken up by Tourism Department for smooth management of the events which aimed to attract more tourists, said Tourism Director Anil Kumar Samal. The Konark Festival will be held in the open air auditorium with famous Sun Temple at the backdrop with five renowned Odissi troupes along with famous artistes of Manipuri, Satriya, Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam and Kathak, Samal said. Similarly, the International Sand Art Festival will have 35 stalls with reputed international and national artistes. Women sand artistes and differently-abled sand artistes will also participate in the festival coordinated by Sudarshan Patnaik. Awards and trophies will be given to the winners. Samal said emphasis was being laid on maintenance of law and order, safety and security of VIPs, foreign tourists, traffic management and parking of vehicles. The Department of Tourism is giving emphasis for its hassle-free management and taking sincere efforts toattract more and more tourists and art lovers through media campaign and tour packages through OTDC (Odisha tourism development corporation), said Samal. Arunachal govt to set up regional culture centre
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Saturday said the government is contemplating setting up a regional cultural centre here soon to preserve the cultural mosaic of the state, which is home to a diverse tribes and multilingual communities. “The proposed center will provide a platform to all the tribes to preserve and promote their diverse culture besides creating employment opportunities to the unemployed youths,” he told the fifth general conference of Arunachal Artistes Forum (AAF) at Nirjuli, 20 km from here. The chief minister also announced a corpus fund of Rs 50 lakh for AAF. Besides preserving and maintaining the cultural mosaic, there was also urgent need to introspect on preserving the indigenous dialects, Tuki said and called upon the artists to not only shoulder the responsibility but also to showcase and pass it on to the younger generation to emulate. The first North East Film festival would be held in the state this year, he added. (PTI)
