Mookhep firing probe

SHILLONG: The political department is yet to receive the report of Mookhep firing incident even after the senior official DP Wahlang completed the probe.
Earlier, the deadline to submit the report was in October 31 following which the official completed the inquiry, but the report is yet to be submitted.
An official with the political department said on Saturday that the department was yet to get the report.
On  September 24 last year  two villagers were killed and several others injured at Mookhep in the police firing on a crowd protesting against the apathy of the Government to address the concerns of the people following the NGT ban on coal mining.
Following the incident, a magisterial inquiry was ordered and the magistrate, East Jaintia Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner S.S. Syiemlieh submitted the report.
However, the Government rejected the probe citing that the report posed more questions than answers.
While the pressure groups wanted a high level probe, the state government in March this year had entrusted Wahlang to probe the incident.
Though the deadline for submission of the probe report by Wahlang was September 24 this year, he had sought more time for examination of witnesses which was allowed by the political department.
