Police advisory on personal papers

SHILLONG: The state police on Friday issued advisory to the general public asking them to be cautious while submitting personal documents to prevent miscreants from misusing them for issuing of illegal SIM cards.
According to police, in ordinary course, documents like Identity Card, Residential Proof, PAN card, electricity bills are always submitted to different organisations/retailers, for opening of bank account, buying of new SIM cards and other purposes.
“However, the self-certified copies of the documents are handed over unsuspectingly that it can be misused,” East Khasi Hills district police chief M Kharkrang said.
Kharkrang said, “A number of personal documents have been misused for issuing SIM cards to criminals.”
He said, “Therefore, the public are advised to inculcate a habit of writing the date and purpose for which the documents are submitted and such writing to be made in the middle of document.”
