SHILLONG: The Forensic Science Laboratory report has provided cloudy information over the death of Patharkhmah Officer in charge, P.J. Marbaniang, stating lack of physical evidences, pushing aside conclusions as to the manner that led to his death.
The report stated that the bullet indentation could not be found making the investigators conclude that the position of the deceased was “not possible to assess”.
Although, the report mentioned that the entire crime scene was “thoroughly washed” when the room was inspected by forensic experts on February 17, the report again indicated, “There were faint blood stain traces at a few places and few dots of bloodstain on the chair, table and another at one end of the bed facing the entry door.”
However, as per report stated by the Assistant Director, Chemistry Division, it provided an ambiguous statement on the cop’s death. They were told by the Officer in Charge Nongpoh PS that the room had been washed.
It may be reminded that Marbaniang’s body was found with bullet wounds on his head on the night of January 24 less than 24 hours after he had detained 32 coal-laden trucks which were illegally transporting coal.
With the recent arrest of five ‘influential people’ in the area for abetting the suicide, where the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SP (City) Vivek Syiem concluded that pressure was exerted on late P.J. Marbaniang which drove him to commit suicide.
Circumstances that led to his death have raised many questions on whether it was a case of murder or suicide.
Before his death his wife had queried her husband if there were reasons for him to be afraid especially after he had detained the coal trucks to which he had replied in the negative.
The family members have repeatedly refuted the suicide theory with the mother of the     deceased cop dissatisfied with the investigation by SIT which had concluded it to be a case of suicide.
The mother said that her son was not a left-handed person while the FIR filed by the police on January 27 had stated that the gun was found in his left hand.
Moreover, the doctor from Patharkhmah still stands by her earlier statement that the entry wound was from the back of the head, the mother claimed.
