State proposes expansion of rail network

SHILLONG: The general manager NF Railway, M. Jamshed, met Chief Secretary Barkos Warjri on Wednesday and discussed the status of railway network in Meghalaya.
The general manager apprised the chief secretary of railway’s continuous efforts for reaching out to Meghalaya by way of operation of six non-rail head passenger reservation system in the State.
In the meeting, discussions were held about various issues related to development of railway network within Meghalaya including the progress of land acquisition, survey work, of the ongoing Tetelia- Byrnihat and Byrnihat – Shillong new line project.
The chief secretary wanted the NFR to examine the feasibility of a railway line along the Meghalaya- Bangladesh border running from South West Garo Hills to East Jaintia Hills, and for entry into Meghalaya from Badarpur of the recently commissioned Lumding – Silchar BG line.
