SHILLONG: The conglomeration of church leaders and NGOs in Garo Hills, in its meeting held in Tura on November 26, has unanimously resolved to invite all citizens of Garo Hills and beyond, to participate and join hands together in the massive peace rally on December 8   at 11 am at Chandmari playground to appeal to all militant outfits, operating in Garo Hills to come over ground and join the mainstream, in the interest of peace, progress and normalcy in Garo Hills.
The proposed gathering would appeal to all underground groups to immediately stop all abductions for ransom, shun killing and bloodshed on suspicion, serving demand notes and extortion or anything that has crippled most of the developmental works, thereby affecting mostly the common man and the poor.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the conglomeration of church leaders and NGOs of Garo Hills said that the rally would utilize the platform, once again, to impress upon all the citizens of Garo Hills that the time has come for all to work in unison and perseveringly against forces which have been stalling peace.
The organizers intend to appeal to the Government to do its best to welcome the outfits back to the mainstream.  Further they would appeal to the Government, the parliament representatives, the Members of the Legislative Assembly and the District Council members to do all in their power to pay attention to the socio-economic development of Garo Hills.
The organizers while appealing to all people of Garo Hills to come out and participate in the rally, informed that they have already assigned various responsibilities to different Churches and NGOs to mobilize and organize the general public to participate in this rally.
