Question mark over Nagaland CM’s educational qualification
SHILLONG: The Registrar of North Eastern Hill University was summoned by the first class Judicial Magistrate of Kohima Court to produce the records related to the educational qualification of Nagaland Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang.
The Judicial Magistrate summoned the Registrar based on the criminal complaint of one Maziezokho Nisa through the counsels under section 125 A of the Representation of People’s Act 1951.
The Court wanted the Registrar to submit records especially related to the examination of Bachelor of Arts held during the year 1978- 979 and 1979-1980 and fixed November 30 as the next date of hearing.
While affidavit filed by (Zeliang prior to 2013 Assembly polls, had stated that he was a graduate, the reply to an RTI query was that there was no record of Zeliang appearing in BA examination.
Section 125 A of the Representation of People’s Act 1951 has provision for imprisonment if a false affidavit is submitted.
In a statement issued on Friday, the complainant, Maziezokho Nisa said that the Chief Minister allegedly made the false claim that he was graduated from Kohima College, Kohima. .
While educational qualification is not a criteria for becoming an MLA or MP, nor is this an issue of being politically motivated, the concern is that a false declaration has been made to fool the people, Nisa added.
