SHILLONG: While the party has been bruised with infighting, disunity, the AICC continues to main stoic silence on the ongoing standoff between Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and KHADC chief P N Syiem over dual-post issue.
The delay on the part of the AICC in resolving the standoff will do no good to the party, Congress sources said on Saturday.
Earlier, the AICC general secretary in-charge Meghalaya V. Narayanasamy had told newsmen that the duo (Chief Minister and CEM) would be summoned to Delhi to iron out the differences soon after Nongstoin by-poll.
The AICC general secretary, after assessing the ground reality during his visit to Shillong, had also submitted his report to the party president Sonia Gandhi for necessary action.
However, party sources said that there is no sign of the AICC leadership summoning the Chief Minister as well as the CEM.
A party legislator said that if the issue persists till 2018 Assembly elections, it will have serious repercussions as far as the performance of the party in the next Assembly polls is concerned.
“We have not performed well in GHADC polls as well as in Nongstoin by-poll”, he added.
When contacted, Narayanasamy said on Saturday that the AICC top brass would meet soon to discuss the matter to find out a viable solution. There are reports that the State Congress leadership will wait for the verdict of the High Court on the pending PIL on dual post, but Narayanasamy said that the party, instead of waiting for the court verdict, will dole out a solution shortly.
“We are yet to summon the Chief Minister and the CEM, but we will find out a solution to the dual post issue shortly”, Narayanasamy said.
The AICC leader indicated that he would visit the state next month to ensure unity in the party.
