NGT ban violation

SHILLONG: It’s over a year since the NGT imposed a ban on coal mining in the state but there is no end to reported attempts to extract and transport fresh coal.
On November 28, Police detected one coal laden truck (ML-07B-1646) driven by Rithu D. Shira at Thapa Agitchak  in North Garo Hills transporting coal in violation of NGT order.
In another incident this month, a Range Forest Officer of Simsangre Range in East Garo Hills detected one truck (AS-17B-3699) along with 48 sacks of coal which was illegally extracted from the area under Rongrengre Reserve  Forest (EGH).
Later, the Forest staff recovered three sacks of coal, three batteries and other items and a driving license in the name of one Sentibirth D. Sangma from the place of occurrence.
