SHILLONG: The Jaintia Hills based Meghalaya People United Front (MPUF) has accused Deputy Chief Minister R.C. Laloo and other MLAs of the region of not implementing the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP) scheme in the right earnest.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, MPUF president D. Laloo said they had filed an RTI on September 29, 2015, seeking detailed reports of SRWP implementation for 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15. However the RTI report they received was only for the year 2012-13.
He said the RTI report for 2012-13 shows an amount to the tune of Rs.32,30,000 lying unutilized in the offices of the Block Development Officer (BDO) which needs to  be released to the people and various community halls in the constituency.
“We want to ask not just the MLA of Jowai but all the MLAs from Jaintia Hills why so many people in the region are unaware of the various MLA schemes which would have benefitted them greatly?” he questioned.
He said the MPUF will soon inquire about other MLA schemes to check whether they have been properly implemented for the benefit of the people.
He further informed that only one person has been benefitted from the scheme out of 31 people from Mihmyntdu village under Thadlaskein C&RD Block.
