Army nabs LAEF cadres in Assam

SHILLONG:  After the infamous killing of two civilians at Kharkutta recently, to improve its image, the Army launched operations in the wee hours of Wednesday in the area of Kukarkata in Goalpara district of Lower Assam and arrested three cadres belonging to Garo Hills-based LAEF.
In a statement issued to the media, the Defence PRO said that the apprehended cadres have been identified as selfstyled  Sergeant  Major  Charan Marak @ Chukhan, Corporal Walter Marak @ Gingjong and Lance Corporal Let Marak @ Rongdot. They had undergone training at NSCN’s  hebron camp in Nagaland and in the training camps in North Garo Hills.
Two AK series rifles, two magazines, 30 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, and some incriminating documents were also recovered from them.
LAEF outfit has been active since 2005 and indulging in activities like senseless violence including killings of innocent citizens daring to raise their voice against the groups,  kidnapping for ransom, extortion and smuggling.
Police neutralize AMMA:  Meanwhile, police have neutralized the activities of  Achik Matgrik Meghalaya Army  (AMMA)  a gang of dacoits who indulged in a series of kidnapping cases in Daddengre area of West Garo Hills.
A 15 -year-old boy from Dobadamgre, Dadenggre  claiming to be a member of AMMA  surrendered at Dadenggre police station on Wednesday.
He has admitted to be involved in kidnapping and extortion at Damal Asim area, police said.He told the police that two members of his group were recently beaten up by public and subsequently two weapons were also seized by police.
Earlier on Tuesday evening two dacoits from the same gang were caught by the public at Dabigre village and handed over to police at Dadenggre . Later, two country made AK rifles were also recovered by the police from the gang.
ASAK surrender : Three ASAK cadres namely  Robison R Marak (33) Bawen R Marak (27) and  Betell R Marak (29), all from  Tikrikilla surrendered at Dadenggre police station. They were active  in Tikrikilla-Dadenggre area. They are being interrogated for knowing more details about other members of ASAK, police said
These surrendered ASAK cadres did not bring any weapons, police said, adding that they disclosed t that ASAK has only a few weapons.
