SHILLONG: Police on Friday arrested a member of an outfit, which called itself Achik Matgrik Meghalaya Army (AMMA), involved in kidnapping and extortion in Dadenggre-Damal Asim-Rongram area, targeting especially the Muslim traders.
Police said that the miscreant, who is a member of the group of dacoits, has been evading arrest, and was finally picked up on Friday morning from Dabigre village under Dadenggre police station.
As per police, the gang (AMMA) was formed by nine members out of whom one died and two were beaten up by people while four were arrested and two surrendered before police.
Police said that the gang of criminals had a total of five weapons- all country made single round firing- which were later recovered.
Police also informed that the criminals mostly target Muslim traders coming to Damal Asim area. They also engaged in dacoity and also threatened a Nokma recently.
