 Editor,

I write this in the wake of the recent reports in your esteemed daily about MBOSE question paper leakage pertaining to class IX (nine) promotion examination. As a student myself, I am anguished by the actions of those people who may be involved in this cheap act, bringing shame to a section of honest, persevering and self respecting teachers, students and parent community of Meghalaya! The question paper leakages have greatly challenged my hope for a secured future and that believe I had entrusted in the education system which would fulfil my aspirations. The class IX (nine) promotion examination was the beginning of my preparations for the final SSLC examination.

I and some of my peers have put so much of effort into the preparation which at this point seems useless. Coupled with my distress I feel betrayed thanks to certain institutions/teachers who for a few fast cash have sold their reputation, their self respect and guiding moral values on which their profession stands. Because of these few criminal minded individuals with vested interests, the student community from all over the state have been affected where some even had to cancel their holiday plans and have to stay back at their boardings to complete their examinations. If such things continue to persist how am I expected to walk the honourable path that my parents have continuously tried to mould into me? How does anyone then expect militancy and extortion to end when education is not regarded as respectable by those who were supposed to protect the interests of the community and shape the future of our children? What kinds of parents entertain their kids to resort to such unfair means by not reporting such actions? These few people have not only denied right to security but rather taken away our sense of being by putting themselves at par with extortionists who will do anything for a menial amount of rupees hundred! It is not only a breakdown of law and order but the degradation of morals and values, principles and ethics in the so called Abode of Clouds! The biggest question now in my mind is: Who do I trust? My teachers, elders or MBOSE? Who will answer me now? I hope and pray that the powers that be will lead us all to the light at the end of this dark tunnel. May God save us all!

Yours etc.,
