SHILLONG: Coordination Committee on International Border (CCIB) has reiterated its demands for realignment of boundary pillars before any fencing works.
CCIB recently apprised West Jaintia Hills DC and BSF IG of the matter.
The matter was discussed in a meeting at Dawki which was attended by the DC of West Jaintia hills district Arunkumar Kembhavi, IG BSF and the CCIB led by its founder Chairman M.F.Ryngksai as well as other NGOs.
During the course of discussion, West Jaintia Hills DC pressed for the immediate construction of Indo-Bangla Border fencing and apprised the meeting that the fencing has to be done from a distance of 150 yards from the main pillars citing security and earlier project implementation as the reason.
“The LBA 2015 is nothing but the copy of 1974 Indira Gandhi-SheikhMajibur Rehman Protocol of which the CCIB strongly refuses to accept as it fails to address the grievances and the rights of the people and the land owners”, he said.
He also added, “The protocol mentioned that only 240.5 acres of land will come to Meghalaya and 41.7 acres of land will go to Bangladesh. It fails to mention and identify that by fencing at the Zero line, India will lose 559.8 acres of land to Bangladesh, now the question arises as to where is the remaining 278 acres of land, is this a gift to Bangladesh at the cost of the peoples right?”
