NEHU records contradict Naga CMs’ claim
SHILLONG: With the Acting Registrar of NEHU and Kohima College producing the records related to the educational qualification of Nagaland Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang which was found to be faulty, the First Class Judicial Magistrate, Kohima has summoned the Chief Minister to appear in person on January 7 next.
The affidavit filed by Zeliang to contest the 2013 Assembly elections, had stated that he was a graduate, while the reply to an RTI query was that there was no record of Zeliang appearing in BA examination.
Section 125 A of the Representation of People’s Act 1951 has provision for imprisonment if a false affidavit is submitted.
The Judicial Magistrate had earlier summoned NEHU official and Principal of Kohima College based on the criminal complaint of Maziezokho Nisa through the counsels under section 125 A of the Representation of People’s Act 1951.
Recently, the Acting Registrar and Principal of Kohima College though his Head Assistant submitted the records related to the educational qualification.
The court in the order issued on December 7 said that it was a fit case to proceed further after going through the records of both NEHU and Kohima College . “The records show that he appeared in BA examination in 1979 bearing roll number 598, but failed in all subjects”, the Court said, while adding that in 1980, there is no record showing Zeliang having appeared B A examination under NEHU
Further, the records showed that Zeliang was enrolled as student of NEHU in 1975-76 bearing registration NO.A0004 and signed by him on the record register on 4-9-1975.
