DGP hands over gallantry awards to 13 cops

SHILLONG: Meghalaya DGP Rajiv Mehta on Friday presented gallantry awards to as many as 13 Police personnel in the Investiture ceremony held in Police Head Quarters.
The police personnel were awarded gallantry medals for showing “exemplary courage” in fighting militancy in Khasi and Garo Hills areas.
The recipients, whose efforts were recognised by the Centre on previous occasions, were handed over the awards with an aim to boost the morale of the police force.
The recipients are East Garo Hills SP, Davis N Marak, SSP, CID, Claudia Lyngwa, Additional SP, Ringrang TG Momin, , Inspector Issac S Marak, Sub Inspector Kamal Thapa, Sub Inspector, Deep Khatri, Sub Inspector Sengsram Ch Marak, Havaldar B Gurung, Sanjeev Sharma and Cronen Marak.
Gallantry awards were also given BNC Rajendra Kahit, BNC Riewsngewthuh Umlong and ABC Hubirth S Marak.
It may be mentioned that gallantry awards were presented to CA Lyngwa, SSP CID and to her team of officers by the Government of India on the occasion of Independence Day (2009) for their gallant act during an encounter with HNLC and NLFT militants at Wahlynmbong area on March 26, 2008.
Similarly, gallantry medals to DN Marak, SP, EGH and his team of officers were presented by the Government of India on the occasion of the Independence Day (2012) for their gallant act in an encounter with GNLA on August 8, 2011 at Ganingre area across Simsang river where four militants were neutralized and a large quantity of arms and ammunition  were recovered.
Gallantry medals to RTG Momin and his team of officers were presented by the Government of India on the occasion of the Independence Day 2014 for their gallant act in an encounter with GNLA on April 12, 2013, at Koksi Nengsat area under Songsak Police Station where two GNLA militants were neutralized and a large quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered.
